Some come to Barcelona R Ranch as young horses learning their first lessons in handling and leading. Others are ready to begin bozal, progress into bit or prepare for the show ring.
Our trainer, Luis Vigo Saucedo, has spent 15 years working with Peruvian Horses in Peru, Ecuador and the United States. He provides halter, bozal, bit and show training at our 10-acre ranch in Webster, Florida.
Luis takes the time to understand the horse in front of him—its age, experience, temperament, physical development and future purpose. The goal is not to rush through a list of lessons. It is to build a dependable foundation that will continue serving the horse and its owner long after the training program ends.
Barcelona R Ranch primarily accepts Peruvian Horses. Paso Finos may be considered with prior approval.
Training space is limited, and horses are accepted individually after an initial conversation.
Approved horses may come to us from throughout Florida and other states.

Luis begins by observing how the horse responds to handling, pressure, new surroundings and unfamiliar requests. He considers what the horse already understands, where confusion may exist and which skills should be established before more advanced work begins.
The owner’s goals are also important. A horse being developed for pleasure riding may have different needs than a breeding prospect or a Peruvian Horse preparing for competition.
This allows the training program to move forward with a clear purpose while remaining appropriate for the individual horse.

How Long Will My Horse Need Training?
There is no single training timeline that is right for every horse. The answer depends on where the horse begins, what it is ready to learn and what the owner hopes to accomplish.

A difficult behavior rarely tells the whole story. Before deciding whether we can help, Luis needs to understand when the behavior occurs, how it developed and how the horse currently responds.
Some horses may be confused, inexperienced or lacking a dependable foundation. Others may have learned responses that require patient, consistent work. Physical discomfort can also affect behavior and should be discussed with an appropriate veterinarian when necessary.
Because every situation is different, Barcelona R Ranch does not automatically accept every horse with corrective training needs. Luis considers the available history, the behavior involved and whether the horse can be handled safely within the program.

Yes. Approved horses may come from throughout Florida or another state when training space is available. Transportation arrangements are handled separately.

Barcelona R Ranch may offer young horses, show prospects, breeding prospects and horses progressing through training. We may also help buyers locate a suitable Peruvian Horse.
09 Is B.R. Preferido available to outside mares?
Yes. B.R. Preferido is standing at stud, and outside mares may be considered by arrangement. Visit our stallions page or contact us for current breeding information.
10 Is Barcelona R Ranch involved with NAPHA?
Yes. Barcelona R Ranch is involved with the North American Peruvian Horse Association and the Southern States Peruvian Horse Club. Our Peruvian Horses are registered with NAPHA .
